Stop Sexual Violence (Interactive Interface)

Problem

Sexual violence is an issue in Australia and bystanders are hesitating to help victims because they are unsure of how to respond in such situations. Therefore, there was an area of opportunity to do a project around raising awareness on sexual violence in Australia that also provides informational content on how bystanders can help prevent sexual violence from occurring.

Solution

The project is an interactive screen that has:

  • Data visualisations made to raise awareness for sexual violence in Australia (The data used is from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.)

  • It then teaches others how to become active bystanders to further prevent sexual violence from taking place (The information is from Right to Be, a site that teaches others about bystander intervention)

  • The user can then take a quiz, where users can test their knowledge and earn a prize (voucher) if they get 2 out of 3 correct.​​

The target audience for this project is university students as many people who go to university are young adults, which is the age that experiences higher levels of sexual violence. The interactive screen would be placed on the campus like QUT and made to have rewards catered to QUT students.

Skills From This Project

Figma Skills

Gained more expereince using animation, varibles and figma plugins.

Research

Researched the target audience and did personas and a user journey.

Independent

Since the project was very open, I had to plan the steps that I would take to get to a final prototype.

Visulaisation of Data

I needed to determine the most effective way to visualize the data.

Wireframing

Made wireframes to display all the screens before making the prototype on Figma.

Testing

Getting feedback and then making iterations and improvements from the feedback throughout the design process.

Had to search and analysis data.

Process

The design process consisted of low, medium and high-fidelity prototyping. Throughout the process, the prototypes were tested and changed depending on the feedback provided. Not all parts of the process are included as it would be too long, so I tried to include the main aspects. 

Research

Data Exploration

To create the data visualisation, I first collected data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and put it all in an Excel spreadsheet. Then, I wrote down ideas for how the data could be displayed in the project.

Bystander Intervention 

Through research, I found out about the 5D’s, which are different methods that can be used to help someone who is being harassed. Right to Be is a site that teaches others about bystander intervention and was part of the creation of the 5Ds. For this project, I used content from Right to Be to explain the 5Ds to users.

Personas

I created these personas to further understand different types of university students. This makes it easier to see their interests, challenges and behaviours.

Journey Map

I created a journey map to see how users interact with two ideas. Doing a journey map has helped me layout areas that need to be further looked into for my project.

Low Fidelity 

Paper Prototyping

I created a paper prototype to test how people would interact with the designs. Drawing the designs on paper helped explore different ways elements of the design could be laid out.

Bystander Intervention/Quiz Prototyping

I created the low-fidelity prototype for the bystander intervention screens on Canva as it would be easier to display all the text. I then printed them out to be tested.

Testing

I tested the low-fidelity prototype on the target audience and got feedback which I could then implement into the medium-fidelity phase.

Medium Fidelity

I then created a medium-fidelity prototype on Figma. I further developed the screens from low-fidelity prototyping and made it functional.

User Testing Report

I put together a user testing report to get additional feedback before making the high-fidelity prototype.

Made final changes to the prototype.

Final Touches

Added more animation to make the whole prototype more engaging.
