Data Visualisation
Design
This was an open design project, where I was given the opportunity to pick any data source and make a creative visual outcome that effectively displayed the data through a dashboard using Tableau.
Context of Use
For Harry Styles Official Website
Purpose
This was made for Harry Style fans who were interested in his music statistics, to boost more streams/views for his music, and to demonstrate live updating data.
Interactivity
The design compares how albums have performed against each other through different metrics. Users can hover their mouse over statics to learn more about what they represent on the tableau website.
Skills From This Project
Data Exploration
Learnt how to search and analysis data.
Visulaisation of Data
Learnt about the different charts, graphs and what would be best for the different types of data.
L.A.T.C.H
Taught how to organise data in different ways.
Integrity
Data Density
Learning about Univariate, Bivariate and Multivariate.
Smallest Effective Difference
Figuring out what can be left out. Minimising non-data ink.
Regularising
Removing unnecessary detail, improving the data readability.
Citing sources and making sure they are reliable.
Process
1. Found Data Sources
Found different statistics surrounding Harry Styles Albums (Tour dates, streams, music video views, billboard charts, melody and chord data) and then put them into an Excel spreadsheet.
Billboard
Streams
Tour Data
MV Views
Melody and Chord Data
2. Started Making Graphs
Started making graphs in Tableau and making iterations throughout.
3. Removing Data
Removed data on the melody/chords as the source did not provide enough detail on how the data was calculated. Tour data on what songs were played was also removed as it didn't provide a good comparison.
4. Improving Graphs
Made changes to colours used, shapes used, and where data would be placed.
5. Making the dashboard
Made a draft layout, got feedback and then created the dashboard on Tableau. Got inspiration from his offical website to match the aesthetic.
6. Making changes to the graphs
Made some final changes to the designs to make the designs easier for the users to understand.
