App Design

iHeartMedia is a large audio company. They are looking for a UX intern to join their UX team, which involves designing engaging user interfaces. iHeartMedia has an app called iHeartRadio, an all-in-one platform that streams radio, podcasts, and music for free. To demonstrate my skills, I looked at iHeartRadio’s application and saw where there was an area for opportunity.

Idea

Audiobooks is a market iHeartRadio could explore, further adding to them being an all-in-one digital service.

Why

Audiobooks are a growing market in the audio space. Competitors have started to implement audiobooks into their apps and have seen success. I believe it would be beneficial for iHeartRadio to consider adding a section for audiobooks as it gives users new content, and makes it convenient for users as they can stay on one app. Also, it allows for iHeartRadio to compete against others in the space.

Skills From This Project

Figma

Improved on my Figma skills and knowledge.

Research

Researched iHeartMedia, IHeartRadio and competitors.

Independent

Wireframing

Made a couple wireframes to display all the screens before making the prototype on Figma.

Testing

Getting feedback and then making iterations and improvements from the feedback.

Since the project was very open, I had to plan the steps that I would take to get to a final prototype.

Process

1. Research

Researched competitors (Spotify and Audible) and looked at their layout, payment methods and features that are apart of their apps for inspiration.

2. Planned out Ideas

Wrote down how I would go about adding audiobooks into iHeartRadio’s current app design. This involved writing/visualising the aesthetics and functional elements, the payment options, and the new layout for the app.

3. Created Wireframes

Sketched wireframes to display the what the different screens would look like.

4. Low/Med Fidelity Prototype

Started creating the prototype on Figma.

5. Tested and got Feedback

Organised people to test my prototype to get feedback. From the feedback, I had to make a couple of changes. One main change was to the clips feature as it was too complicated. I replaced clips with a bookmark feature as it was easier for people to use and had a similar outcome.

6. Final Prototype

Finished making the prototype.
